Pet Wants Recognizes and Appreciates the Contributions of Women in Business

international women's day icon

Did you know that 31% of all small business or franchise owners in the US are women? Or that 62% of women entrepreneurs cite their business as their primary source of income? How about that women-owned businesses generate $1.8 trillion in revenue annually?

Women-owned businesses are a driving force of the US economy.

So, in honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2021, Pet Wants would like to recognize the contributions of its female franchise owners. Thanks to each and every one of you for the work you do to grow your businesses and to serve the pet owners in your communities.

Why did you want to be in business for yourself?

Shannon: I wanted to own my own business because I wanted to be in control of my professional future and my success. My passion and hard work are directly responsible for the success of my business, and that is an amazing feeling!

Why did you choose a franchise concept?

Shannon: I chose a franchise concept because I knew that I wanted to own my own business, but I didn't want to reinvent the wheel. I wanted a business model to follow that had proven to be successful. The franchise concept gives me a blueprint to follow, but still offers me the pride and accomplishment of ownership.

What do you love most about owning a Pet Wants business?

Shannon: There are so many things that I love about owning a Pet Wants franchise. First and foremost, I love working with animals every day and knowing that the products that I offer contribute to their health and happiness. When customers tell me that their pets are thriving because of my store, it is the best feeling ever. I feel fulfilled at the end of the day knowing that I'm bringing wellness to the pet families in my community.

What is the greatest obstacle you have had to overcome as a female business owner?

Shannon: Along with being a female business owner, I am a single mom of two. Finding a work-life balance has been a challenge. Being efficient with my time and creating schedules and systems has helped to create balance for my family, as well as for my business.

What advice would you give to other women who want to own their own business?

Shannon: Make sure the business that you are creating is something that you're passionate about and that you're willing to put in the hard work, time, and effort to make it successful. You are in charge of your future, so go for it!
